Agilent Taiwan captures LOHAS award for health, sustainability (March 2008)

Agilent Taiwan recently captured The Most LOHAS Corporation Award, presented by CommonWealth, a top-tier magazine in Taiwan. LOHAS, which stands for lifestyles of health and sustainability, is an acronym coined in the United States to describe a marketplace for goods and services focused on health, the environment, social justice, personal development and sustainable living. The concept has arrived in Taiwan and has provided a popular direction for the country's industrial development.
Agilent Taiwan was the only foreign enterprise among the 405 entrants, and the only one without a large local manufacturing site. As one judge commented, "Agilent's policies at the corporate level include an environmental, health and safety system; employee benefits; and community services. These policies have been faithfully enacted in Taiwan – the local employees' initiatives and enthusiasm prove that the LOHAS spirit is not exclusive to big companies." Agilent has 225 employees in Taiwan.
"This award recognizes not only Agilent's environmental and social responsibility, but also our effort to build a workplace that is pleasant, flexible and safe," said I-Lung Shen, Taiwan country manager and EMG Taiwan regional manager. "We will keep up our commitment to our employees and to the Earth.

"Water-cooler gossip, vacant work stations, a boss who's never in his office...so that's what it takes to be one of The Best Companies To Work For In India, you mutter under your breath after spending a few minutes in Agilent Technologies' four-storeyed corporate office in Gurgaon. It's true: Enter the building, and you stumble into people (presumably employees) either lolling around or huddled together in a chinwag. The 9-5 cycle has peaked, yet there are plenty of unoccupied cubicles. Walk up to the Country Manager's corner room-and he isn't there. "He's never at his seat," grumbles the good Secretary."
